Luca Frei, born in Lugano, Switzerland, is an artist based in Malmö. His work is situated between research based visual art and display, and often include aspects related to pedagogy and play. It takes shape of architectural interventions, narrative environments or presentation structures that invite public participation and dialogue, and involves a diverse range of media and approaches to artistic production. Constant thematic preoccupations encompass the relationship between body and architecture, translation and mediation, as well as aspects related to community and learning.

Frei has had solo shows at Barbara Wien, Berlin; Kunsthaus Glarus; Bonner Kunstverein; Lunds Konsthall, Studio Dabbeni, Lugano; along with participation in numerous biennials such as the Cairo Biennial; the Prague Biennial; the Istanbul Biennial; and exhibitions at the The National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto; Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven; Centre Pompidou in Paris; and Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Recent exhibitions designs include Malmö Konsthall; Azkuna Zentroa Bilbao; Tate Liverpool; MHKA, Antwerp; and Nottingham Contemporary. Since 2016 he is Associate Professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Visual Arts, Copenhagen.
