High Five
2015
steel folding table legs, steel, pine wood
240 cm x 32 cm x 60 cm each
Installation dimensions variable

The sculpture presents five elements resembling tall folding tables, defiantly standing on their sides with foldable legs suspended in the air, rendering them impractical for their intended use as furniture. This tension between function and form dampens the enthusiasm hinted at in the title, as the tables cease to serve their conventional purpose and instead evolve into imposing partition screens. Surrounding them, salvaged chairs from a nearby school serve as silent stand-ins, further accentuating the transformative nature of the space.

High Five is part of a group of works that raise questions about the body, distance and proximity, tension and the yearning for communication and explicitly use standard furniture elements as raw material. The group consists of Untitled (Cairo) (2010), Strength (2013), and Idle (2017).

In 2016 , High Five was part of Falke Pisano's exhibition The Value in Mathematics at Badischer Kunstverein, supporting a series of diagrams by the artist linking multiple issues addressed in the show.
