Idle
2017
Tubular steel, pine board
Two elements, each 70 x 50 x 100 cm

In this sculpture, the prefabricated steel frames of IKEA chairs and ordinary wooden shelves are used in a way that compromises their function and purpose. This disconnection is echoed in how the two figures lounge sideways on the chairs' frames, apparently detached from their surroundings.

Idle is part of a group of works that raise questions about the body, distance and proximity, tension and the yearning for communication and explicitly use standard furniture elements as raw material. The group consists of Untitled (Cairo) (2010), Strength (2013), and High Five (2015).
