In 2015, I was commissioned to restage Simone Forti's See Saw for the Objects and Bodies at Rest and in Motion exhibition at Moderna Museet. My approach was to reconsider the plywood prop, its relationship to the exhibition space and the other artworks in the show, and how to make it speak when not in use. Forti's use of plywood props, as in See Saw (1960) and Slant Board (1961), can be seen as an attempt to renegotiate the traditional horizontal stage and its relationship to the body, challenging conventional preconceptions about movement, dance, and composition.

My take on See Saw involved duplicating the saw horses and positioning them in different exhibition areas. This duplication amplified the props' sculptural qualities, transforming them into objects with a presence to be experienced in space and with other works of art.

The performance serves as both the opening and closing act of an exhibition. It commences with the dancers hoisting the plank from a sawhorse, signalling the start. They then carry the plank across the exhibition space and place it on a second sawhorse. Climbing onto the plank, they begin their rhythmic see-sawing. At the end of the exhibition, the plank is returned to its original sawhorse for a second performance. The transportation of the plank between the two points mirrors the delicate balance and counterbalance of the performers on the see-saw.
